Company /United utilities / Drainage Consultant Envirocare Northwest had an enquiry from a local Fruit & Veg company to provide a treatment plant to reduce the solids generated from a potato rumbler which was producing an effluent which exceeded the companies trade effluent suspended solids discharge consent limit

Following an on-site meeting UU requested that the discharge should be reduced in solids content by installing a balance tank system prior to discharge to the public sewer, Four silt traps were installed with a settlement volume capacity of 6 m3 equivalent to three days production which would be desludged and the starch/potato water collected by a local pig farmer to be sterilised /blended for animal feed

1. Excavation, transfer off site of spoil and positioning of silt tanks

2. Tanks concreted into position and area reinstated

3. System working and discharging to the public sewer
